Pricing
My current Spring Portrait Special will be available through April 30, 2009. It features a terrific price on either a gorgeous 11 x 14 standard mounted canvas or an incredibly cute 5 x 5 20-page hard cover press printed photo book. A standard mounted canvas is a printed canvas that has been stretched around a masonite board. This is the easiest type of canvas print to have framed because it works like a normal print. The 5 x 5 hard cover press printed photo book has a hinged binding that allows the book to lay open flat and will include at least 16 unique poses. Preview the photo book here.

Also included with this special are two 4 x 6 bevel mounted prints that make a great presentation on a desk or display area. They are a rigid, freestanding print that looks great on a small easel or can also be framed. They really make awesome displays in your office space. Finally, you will receive 20% off any other product purchases you make. I am waving my normal session fee to make this a really amazing portrait special that I know everyone will enjoy.
Session Fees
Studio Session
My studio space is a comfortable and spacious 1300 sq ft located in the Old City in Knoxville, TN. It provides an inviting open area with relaxing couches that allows you to view all of the action or just chill out while I am changing a set. More importantly, this space ignites for me a ton of creative freedom. It also includes a large dressing room and I encourage multiple clothing changes. Get Directions.
Location Sessions
I offer two different session types for location photography. The Cottage Session or the Designer Session. The Cottage location session takes place in and around your home to include your living environment as the backdrop for all of your portraits. This type of session can also be at another location of your choosing like a park or the mountains. The point is, the place you choose should be a place that has meaning and where you are comfortable being you.
For my Designer location session, I bring the photography studio to your home. I will set-up hand-painted canvas backdrops and state of the art studio lighting to capture that perfect portrait. This session requires at least 10 ft x 10 ft of open space in a room with ceilings with no less than 8 ft high and clear of low hanging light fixtures and ceiling fans.
- Studio Session Fee is $48.50 for the first hour and each additional half-hour is $12.50.
- Cottage Session Fee (location) is $48.50 for the first hour and each additional half-hour is $12.50.
- Designer Session Fee (location) is $98.50 for the first hour and $25.00 for each additional half-hour.

How it Works
My package options are designed to actually have you start at the bottom and work your way up. Let me explain. My core packages are listed down the left side of this web page. You will find the Display, Style, Celebration, Basic, and Harmony packages also contain options within themselves to fill a variety portrait needs.
For example, let’s begin by choosing our main display item first. This should lead us way down this web page to either the Display or Style packages. For the sake of this example, let’s decide that a 16 x 20 will be the perfect size for our needs. The Style package is the obvious choice since it includes this size print and we see we also get to select any one option from the Basic package as well as any one option from the Harmony package. I think Basic option 203 and Harmony option 104 will give us a nice selection of portraits to share with our family and friends.
This is, of course, only one of many package selections you can build yourself. I will work with you to select the packages and options that best fit your needs. Feel free to shop my a La Carte section to fill your most specific portrait needs. Keep in mind this is a fraction of the print sizes and products available to you. I can help you get a portrait print virtually any size you need.
- Large prints (11 x 14 and up) include a standard mounting, which helps prevent damage during delivery and is ready for framing.
- Please ask about other mounting and finishing options including protective and textured coatings, canvas gallery wraps, stretched canvas, and many other attractive options for displaying and protecting your portraits.
- I also offer gorgeous custom framing, photo books, and memory albums. Be sure to discuss your display needs with me during your proofing session so I know exactly how to prepare your order.
- You can earn a 15% discount off all A La Carte Items by purchasing any two of the Celebration, Basic, or Harmony Packages. You receive the same 15% discount if you buy either the Style or Display Package.
Wall Prints
Today, many families are choosing to preserve their memories, their legacy, through the art of photographic portraits. Portraiture serves as decorative focal points on our homes and offices. It enhances the décor of any location by making it more personalized and cheerful. Portraiture communicates how we feel about ourselves and those closest to us. By creatively displaying personal portraiture in our homes or offices, we are turning our precious family photographs into treasured heirlooms and decorative accents. We can then add both drama and personality to every room in our home. Used in an office environment, portraits personalize the décor and enhance the enjoyment of both those who work and those who visit there.
Dressing Tips
We want to capture the picture that best portrays our subjects. This is only possible when you are comfortable and ready to take pictures. Our job is to help you feel relaxed and at ease so we get the best pictures that you have ever taken. Through expert posing, lighting, and camera angle – we get those pictures. Your job is to consider your wardrobe decisions and how they are a reflection of you and will influence your final portrait.
Some Quick Tips:
- For white backgrounds – casual clothing is a great choice. These look very good with jeans. If you wish for a more formal portrait, pastel and light color clothing make an elegant choice.
- Low key portraits require rich colors to be effective. Consider black, olive, gray, navy, plum, burgundy, dark brown, etc.
- You can mix colors, just be consistent and harmonize your color choices. When dressing a group (any number of persons greater than one) and you are looking to create a lighter casual look, make certain that everyone dresses in a lighter shade of clothing and vice versa if you are going for a formal, more traditional look, dress in darker shades of clothing.
- Generally, long sleeves can be more flattering than short sleeves.
- Solid colors are slimming and less distracting.
- Avoid brightly colored patterns, stripes, visible words or logos, large shoulder pads.
- Avoid glasses if possible. Ones with tinting or very thick lenses can be very difficult to work with. They can compromise the lighting setup and distort facial lines. Consider popping out the lenses or borrowing another pair of frames. Non-glare glasses are often ok, and newer style small frames usually work well.
- Avoid big sloppy running shoes, especially ones that used to be white.
- Watch tight shirts on large mid-areas.
- Men – try to avoid five-o’clock shadow
- Women – Avoid using more makeup than you normally would.
- Avoid getting a new hairstyles or making clothing choices that you may later find trendy.
- Overall, clothing should not be too tight or too loose.
- The clothing choice should match the purpose of the portrait.
- A common misconception for women that assume wearing loose or baggy tops will conceal a larger mid-section. In truth, they make one look bigger by creating unnatural shapes that hang unattractively off the bust line. Make sure to wear clothing that enhances your figure – not hide it.
When it comes to larger group portraits, the more everyone’s bodies blend together the more appealing the portrait becomes. Decide on the basic tone of the clothing (warm-toned: browns, tan, orange or cool tones: blues, grays, and blacks) and make sure the entire group has read and agreed to follow the tips listed above.
I suggest you follow these suggestions as much as possible, however I understand that it can be very difficult to get everyone fully coordinated. Rest assured that I will work with whatever you show up in to get the best portraits possible.
Finally, your session is not all about you. Of course you want to look and present your best, but the end result is for those closest to you – your family and friends. They are the ones that know you through their eyes. So, the more you relax and enjoy your portrait session, the more everyone else will get to enjoy your portraits.
Choosing the Right Shot
During a session, we may take so many great photos, it can be very hard to choose which will be used for your prints. Many people believe that I know which image is best. I will, of course, have my favorites but it is really completely subjective.
Here is a good rule to follow: When going through your images, trust your first impressions. If you see an image you have a reaction to, that is your heart speaking. Better to trust your heart than someone else’s opinion. If you analyze the pose too much, you are using your head and therefore too much logic. It is the emotion that shows through that really matters.
Finishing
All of your portrait prints are closely examined, retouched, and enhanced to make sure your best image shines through. It is true that computers have made the labor of retouching much less tedious and time consuming than it was in the past, but the skills and techniques have not changed. It takes skill, talent, and a trained eye to apply the right amount of enhancing to a portrait. My expertise will reveal all of the “magic” within your portraits.
My Guarantee
With your help and my expertise I try to ensure that I capture the very best images during your photo session. It is rare that anyone is not satisfied. This page offers many tips that help us properly plan your session. However, I still guarantee my work. If you are not happy, I will offer to re-shoot or refund your money. Simple as that.
